NuScale Stock Price Is Down 70%. Is It A Buy?

NuScale Power (SMR) stock price has lost 70% of its value over the last year. Now, its 52-week high near $57.42 seems like a distant dream.

So, should you buy the NuScale stock as it is available at a steep discount? According to analysts, now's not a good time to buy it. But once the NuScale stock price declines to $7 a share, you can then consider taking a position.

NuScale Already Got Approval From NRC

NuScale had a lot of things going on for itself. It received approval for its 77 MW small modular reactor design from the NRC back in 2025. The company has also established a supply chain consisting of 60 specialized partners. All of these things will help NuScale to build a nuclear power plant.

NuScale also has a commercialization partner. It's called ENTRA1 Energy, and it's working with TVA to potentially deploy 5 gigawatts of NuScale reactors. If it happens, it would require 72 NuScale modules.

However, all of this is still on paper. The TVA and ENTRA1 have yet to sign a power purchase agreement. Also, NuScale isn't making any serious commercial revenue yet.

The revenue during Q2 was only $75K. That's nothing when we are talking about a company like NuScale. So, for now, the NuScale stock remains highly risky, as a lot of things are still on paper.

One thing that NuScale has going for itself is its strong balance sheet. By June 2026, NuScale had around $1.9 billion in cash, investments, and cash equivalents. This buffer will be helpful for a company during this stage of development.

Also, the company sold shares via an at-the-market offering. This is significant dilution and highlights that NuScale might do it again in the future.

As of now, NuScale has a market capitalization of $4 billion. That's quite a lot for a company that is not making any serious revenue. Considering all of these things, it is clear that NuScale stock is still overpriced even at its current trading price.

But once the TVA project becomes a reality, then you can consider buying NuScale stock above $7. But until it does happen, you should keep an eye on the $5 price level.

If NuScale stock price drops to $5, you can consider taking a position. But even then, only take a small position, as NuScale stock is still a speculative investment for now.
