Ethereum (ETH) Is Stuck In A Long-Term Downtrend

Ethereum (ETH) is in a long-term downtrend with no end in sight. It is the same with Bitcoin and every other altcoin in the market.

However, analysts think that this downtrend in Ethereum isn't going anywhere. In fact, they think things will get worse for Ethereum.

Ethereum Faces Multiple Headwinds

If we look at the seasonal charts, summer is not a good time for Ethereum. From 2016 to 2025, the months of Jul, Aug, and Sep are not that good for ETH. The prices were only positive 4 out of 10 times during these months. So, history alone tells us that the odds are stacked against ETH.

But that's not the only thing that is bad for ETH. The Fed has maintained high interest rates, and we might get another rate hike before the end of 2026. Also, inflation is above the target, which means the Fed is unlikely to lower rates.

In this environment of high rates, people will be more interested in yield-bearing assets. Once again, this spells bad news for Ethereum, which is a non-yielding asset.

Another problem for Ethereum is the chain's cybersecurity issues. Around $840 million was lost due to the exploits in the DeFi ecosystem. Incidents like these don't really inspire confidence.

Amidst all of this, the crypto market is also going through a bearish trend. The investors confidence is already at record lows. In fact, many long-term holders are now also questioning whether they should really hold.

Meanwhile, the returns from the AI stocks continue to surprise everyone. At times like these, why would anyone want to put their money into an asset like ETH?

The bottom line is that caution is needed if you are thinking about buying Ethereum. There's a good chance that we have yet to see the real bottom in Ethereum (ETH).
