Chinese Yuan Forecast From HSBC

HSBC says that the RMB remains supported by structural forces. A quick look at the market shows that the Chinese Yuan is still very strong against the US Dollar. The fact that CNY is holding its own even with the USD recovery tells us a lot about where USD/CNY is headed.

HSBC added that the gains in the Yuan might slow down in the near term. However, the long-term trend supports the CNY against the USD.

China Is Moving Towards Internationalization

The bank also noted that People's Bank of China policies also support the CNY. The central bank allowed the USD/CNY fixing to be a little more modest. But this was more about the USD strength rather than a change in the policy.

HSBC thinks that the RMB strength is a result of China's push towards internationalization. This move will also help China become more self-reliant.

If we look in the past, the CNY remained at low levels against the USD. At that time, even the US government accused China of keeping the CNY at artificially low levels. But now, things are changing, and the CNY is gaining ground against the greenback.

China is also taking several steps that will impact the USD/CNY. For starters, the country is taking steps to expand the RMB settlement. In addition, China is also working on improving cross-border trading. These initiatives will make it easy for Chinese banks to do offshore Yuan trading via Shanghai's free trade zone.

Overall, China is doing reforms that will only strengthen the Yuan against the US Dollar. Also, the country is moving ahead with its plan of diversification away from US assets.

In the coming years, the international use of the Yuan will also improve. So, that's also something that will underpin the CNY.

The bottom line is that USD/CNY is expected to go down further in 2026 and 2027. The reforms, policy changes, and a lot of other factors support the CNY against the USD.
