Microsoft has introduced a new option of 'working from home' for its staff. After getting the manager's approval, staff will be able to work from home! This move was made after similar working options were introduced on Twitter and Facebook as well.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the working culture changed a lot as companies were forced to shift the work away from the office. Now that the pandemic is almost over, many companies have decided to continue offering the 'work from home' option for their employees.
Working from home is a win-win for both the companies as well as the employees. For starters, companies can save money on renting office space, utilities, and so on. On the other hand, it also helps the employees to save on transportation charges and other expenses.
The option to work from home will not be for everyone, though. Microsoft made it clear that those jobs which require in-person presence, such as requiring hardware access, will not qualify for this option. On top of that, those that do qualify for this option will have to get the manager's approval!
Statistics from April revealed that 46% of employees were working from home, which is a major shift from what was happening a few years ago.
So in a sense, we can say that what's happening with the work culture is extremely usual at best but let's not forget that it works!
While there are a lot of benefits of working from home, let's not forget that there are several drawbacks as well. For example, Microsoft's CEO said that sometimes it feels as if one is sleeping at work. Then there is the drawback of blurred work-life balance as some employees are found to be struggling with maintaining a stable work-life balance.
So while the companies like Microsoft are introducing work-from-home policies, it will require some extra effort on the employee's part to find the perfect work-life balance.
