Amazon Considering MetaVerse

Amazon may soon be launching something virtually on its metaverse platform. A hint has been given by Amazon India, which tweeted a teaser lately tagging Decentraland, a virtual world based on blockchain technology. It stated something new is coming and mentioned the name of OnePlus, a popular smartphone maker.

The tweet of Amazon India further suggested that the OnePlus 10 Pro may appear on the Decentraland platform. The phone is coming with 5G technology and it is yet to understand the partnership details of the two giants.

Lately, several physical products have found a place in the metaverse. The JPMorgan has come up with a lounge in it. Billionaire Rihanna filed last month a trademark application in the virtual world platform to sell virtual cosmetics under the brand FENTY.

About Metaverse

Metaverse is a social virtual world in 3D and facilitated through augmented reality headsets. The word was first coined in Snow Crash, a science fiction novel released in 1992. The term is currently a buzzword used to exaggerate the development of various virtual reality technologies. The primary concerns in the world of metaverse include user addiction, user safety and information privacy.

Some of its components were developed in online video games. The first metaverse was named Second Life, which was a virtual world platform and developed in 2003. It incorporated several social media aspects in a 3D version and users were represented as avatars.

Many multiplayer online games are equipped with 3D virtual worlds and social interaction. These two features are important parts of the metaverse. Roblox, a platform for multiplayer game creation, is considered a metaverse. A couple of more names that claim to have developed a metaverse are Fortnite, The Palace and Active Worlds.

Facebook launched Facebook Horizon social VR in 2019. Two years later, the product was renamed and now it is called Meta Platforms. Microsoft acquired Altspace VR, a VR company, in 2017. It has started implementing virtual avatars in its Microsoft Teams product. The race to become one of the best metaverse platforms is now ongoing. Several more tech giants are investing in the segment.
