Forex Market Hours

We found 24 online brokers that are appropriate for Trading International Forex.

Forex market hours

The forex currency markets are all over the world. When one market timezone closes for the day another market will still be trading. This allows traders to trade 24 hours a day with various strategies.

Today we will talk about the Forex market trading hours, but first a little Forex history.

History of Forex Markets

The foreign exchange market is integral to global economic health and trade. The history of foreign exchange and its dramatic growth and development is not surprising. The roots of the established currency market date back to the mid-19th century, when an integrated system called the Gold Standard was adopted in Paris, the French capital.

According to the standards adopted, gold becomes an international cash settlement unit. Its quantity of precious metals has a corresponding conversion to a certain value of trade or barter. Transnational exchanges with the national currency are carried out at a fixed rate calculated as the equivalent of gold.

The introduction of the Gold Standard led to significant reductions in inflation. It is not logical to use gold as as an everyday common currency so as a result as time passed, gold was replaced with a paper equivalent (certificates).

The Gold Standard underwent significant changes during World War I when the countries involved in the war created huge injections of funds to cover their military spending. This reduced the gold reserves of the warring nations.

After the global crisis of the 1930s the economies of the leading countries became weaker, the period of recovery and development began. However, this process was stopped and reversed by World War II which soon broke down. The Bretton Woods Conference, held in the United States in 1944, culminated in a series of competitions in Great Britain and the United States. As a result of that conference some basic principles were adopted which marked the beginning of a brand new system for arranging trade arrangements.

Forex Trading Strategy

Foreign exchange continues to be a way for some successful traders to make money. While most experienced traders will rightly tell you that forex trading is not an undertaking to take lightly. Forex has many benefits for those that educate themselves.

Forex traders who start working without a trading plan and without prior training certainly suffer losses and failures. In any case, regardless and in the field, knowledge and practice will only help to maintain and secure their positions.

This statement is undoubtedly true, because the absence of a personal strategy, and an approach without basic knowledge will greatly reduce success in any financial markets. Without a plan traders can wipe out any trading account in a very short period of time.

For successful and profitable trading, it is important to pick a stable and robust broker platform when you begin.

It would be advisable to spend some time training and doing detailed research on forex trading, getting acquainted with the applications and learning trading vocabulary.

It is often the case that forex traders overestimate their skills and start working too quickly. As a rule, it is advisable to trade using a demo account until stable trading results are developed and perfected in a non live environment.

When completing trading transactions through a demo account, it is necessary to set the right moment for opening and closing the transaction. It is important to have a plan in advance so that possible scenarios and explicit behavior patterns gave better be understood. Training, practice, and understanding of trading systems can take a long time. however, you should never start trading with your financial assets if you do not feel ready. Any money you deposit to a live account and trade with is at risk.

Practicing discipline while implementing formal rules allows you to promptly and timely adjust your positions and resolve any difficult situations with minimal damage as you gain experience.

When searching for effective trading algorithms, it is important to remember that there are many participants in the market who use strategies whose profitability has not been verified. So take every success story you read or hear about with a pinch of salt.

Forex Trading Cycles

There are cycles in every trade environment, the challenge is how do you use it to your advantage.

It is a human-controlled system. This leads to the idea that people buy/sell in measurable cycles.

Institutional traders place automated trades that often execute at the top or bottom of the hour (or some set of fixed time consistently).

Traders are watching and reacting to the most minute changes in the market, which happen (very often) in cycles. That can cause a cascade effect of trading because of human emotion or trading triggers activated by certain movements.

It is possible a large volume trader is riding the marketing at a certain time every hour, so that would flex the currency a bit at regular intervals.

The bottom line is that we are ALL looking for cycles that we can rely on the trade the market and realize a consistent profit. So change your mindset and you may have a new way to trade in the market and leverage your piece of the pie more consistently.

24 Hour International Forex Markets

Forex markets are available 24 hours a day because of certain markets opening and closing with an overlap with each other. Major markets such as New York, Tokyo, Sydney, and London do this. At any given time during the working week any of the major currency markets will be open.

For example, In the United States, you can access the New York market between 8 am to 5 pm EST. You have to access the other markets around the world after those times. By the way, certain holidays may close the market during the workweek.

Whatever your timezone their will be a forex market available to you 24 hours a day. The working hours of every country and its currency market are different.

Worldwide Forex Markets Hours

That said being said, ‘aftermarket hours trading’ is kind of a gray area, especially with futures. There is no ‘after-hours trading’ in Forex, it’s open from Sunday at 4 PM and doesn’t shut down until 4 PM on Friday.

Futures trading can be confusing for the inexperienced, but if you trade the same instruments regularly you will begin to understand it allot better. All futures start at 6 PM CST on Sunday, but depending on what you are trading, the close varies. Equity futures close for the week on Friday at 4:15 CST, Ag futures at 4 CST, Energy and Softs at 5:15. There are also daily ‘breaks’.

But if you look at a chart for any of the highly liquid futures and the major pairs in forex, you will see that there is significant movement before the ‘NY’ or ‘US’ open.

Major markets such as New York, Tokyo, Sydney, and London open as another closes. You can access one of them at a given time. For example, In the United States, you can access the New York market between 8 am to 5 pm EST. You have to access the other markets around the world after those times. Be aware that certain holidays may close the market during the work week.

During the winter months in the UK October – April, the London session opens at 8 am (GMT) and closes at 5 pm (GMT).

In the UK summer months April – October markets open at 7 am Greenwich Mean Time and closes at 4 pm Greenwich Mean Time.

Forex Market Hours Holidays and Daylight Savings

Its a good idea to check the opening and closing of the different Forex Market Hours regularly. Do not assume the time will always be the same. Take into account adjustments for any Daylight Savings and overlapping periods. where 2 Forex market sessions overlap there is always higher trading activity.

Keep yourself in control of your trading goals and keep on top of the various market news.
