Deutsche Borse Brokers Guide

Updated May 21, 2022

Deutsche Borse Brokers

Deutsche Borse is a marketplace where the trading of different securities such as shares takes place. The Deutsche Borse also operates as a provider of transaction services. It offers an easy way for investors and companies to reach the capital markets for those living in Germany or outside investors.

Originally founded in 1993, the Deutsche Borse is a joint-stock company headquartered in Frankfurt. According to data from 2010, more than 765 different companies were listed on Deutsche Borse and had a market capitalisation of about 1.4 trillion Euros. Then in 2013, the Deutsche Borse became the 14th member of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative.

With around 3200 employees, the company serves its customers worldwide in various regions such as Asia, the USA, and Europe. The Deutsche Borse also has a presence in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic. If we talk about the representative offices of Deutsche Borse, these can be found in Dubai, NY, London, Beijing, Chicago and other countries.

The Frankfurt Stock Exchange, based in Germany, also belongs among the largest trading centres for stock and other securities. Available statistics suggest that the share turnover is above 90%, making it one of Germany's largest stock exchanges. The Deutsche Borse is the company that operates the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Deutsche Borse Acquisitions And Mergers

In 2000, an announcement was made about the merger of Deutsche Borse and the LSE (London Stock Exchange). Before that merger took place, the deal fell apart. That did not stop the Deutsche Borse from trying to merge with the LSE once again. But once again, the London Stock Exchange rejected the offer.

In 2005, the CEO resigned, and it was a forced decision by the shareholders. Then the Deutsche Borse decided to start new negotiations to merge with Euronext. If that happened, the two biggest stock exchanges of Europe would have joined and made one market. But once again, the bird did not help the Deutsche Borse to succeed as the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) was the company that won the bid in 2006.

In 2015, the Deutsche Borse made another move in which it bought the 360T (a company) for a total sum of 725 million euros. After paying that hefty sum, the Deutsche Borse acquired 100% of the shares.

Frankfurt Stock Exchange - Overview

Since the Deutsche Borse represents the Frankfurt exchange, discussing the exchange this company represents makes sense. The famous Frankfurt stock exchange is located in the Frankfurt city of Germany. Inside Frankfurt city, the exchange is situated in the Bankenviertel (business district). Almost 90% of the total turnover is generated within Germany. To be more precise, it happens at the trading venues of Borse Frankfurt and Xetra.

Among the seven securities exchanges of Germany, the largest one is the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Some of the popular trading indices include the VDAX, CDAX, DAX, MDAX, EURO STOXX 50 and others.

Xetra is a reference market for trading ETF's (exchange-traded funds) and German equities. In 2015, about 90% of all the share trading activities (all German exchanges) were done via Xetra. If we look at the DAX listings, it seems that Xetra's market share is around 60% in Europe.

As for the trading time, it starts from 9 AM and ends at 5:30 PM (Germany local time). Xetra serves as the basis for DAX calculation, which is an important German index. It would not be an understatement to say that it is the best index for the German shares market.

Another important achievement of the Xetra is that it has more than 200 trading participants from a total of 16 EU countries as well as the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and Hong Kong. All of them are connected through the Xetra servers located in Frankfurt.

Since it is a big market, it is only natural to expect clear and concise rules for governing this market. These rules apply to all the participants of the market. HUST does independent surveillance of the markets to keep it fair for all parties.
