Created in August 2017, Bitcoin Cash is an answer to the issues that Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency in the world, faces. It is built with increased block size to allow more transactions and process the transactions faster. It later underwent another fork and split the currency into two - Bitcoin Cash SV and Bitcoin Cash ABC.
While discussing bitcoin cash information, it is important to note that bitcoin and bitcoin cash differ philosophically.
Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency in the world and was released in 2009. It was created by Satoshi Nakamoto to facilitate a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that can be used in day-to-day transactions. Over the years the value of bitcoin surged with gained mainstream traction. The coin became an investment vehicle for many.
This led to a delay in transactions and an increase in fees as each block was 1MB in size, which is too little considering the volume. The transactions were queued up. The blocks were unable to handle the increased volume.
Bitcoin Cash increased the block size to 8MB initially. It was later increased to 32MB. This enabled the processing of more transactions. The transactions henceforth are fast and fees are low. In a stress test, it was found each block can handle about 25,000 transactions.
With increased transactions per block, it is envisioned the Bitcoin Cash can be used as a medium in daily transactions and can compete with Visa, Mastercard and other such multinational credit card processing service providers.
There are some differences between the two crypto coins. The hard fork does not incorporate Segregated Witness (SegWit), which is another proposed solution that can handle more transactions per block. The SegWit is learned just retains the metadata of the transaction.
The Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism for the two is the same in coin mining. The currency cap is 21 million for each.
Bitcoin Cash is an improved version of bitcoin, but the complete promises are yet to be fulfilled. The average size of blocks mined is much smaller compared to the blockchain of Bitcoin. Moreover, the transaction fees of Bitcoin have lately dropped significantly and this means the two have become competitors.
A couple of other cryptocurrencies are working on similar issues to make transactions fast and cheap. These can become competitors of Bitcoin Cash in the future. Some coins have also partnered with governments and organisations in their projects - like Litecoin gained, as claimed, traction in Venezuela.
Bitcoin Cash is not popular outside the cryptocurrency community and some efforts are required with announcements about adoption.
Bitcoin Cash lacks clarity in governance protocol. Other crypto coins like VeChain and Dash have outlined in detail their governance protocols.
Bitcoin gained immense popularity over the year after its launching in 2009. It became unable to handle transactions fast due to the limitation of block size to 1MB. Users had to wait for the transactions. This also resulted in an increase in transaction fees. The team tried to fix the issue but no improvement was witnessed. As an aftermath, a hard fork bitcoin cash was created with an 8MB block size to accommodate more transactions.
In this article titled, we discussed the need for the creation of Bitcoin Cash and whether it is able to fulfill its promises. However, the coin has gained popularity due to faster transactions and lower fees.
Beginners looking to invest in cryptocurrency can opt for Bitcoin cash as it is backed by the Bitcoin team and it is to note that Bitcoin is the largest crypto in the world with respect to market capitalisation. The value of Bitcoin is increasing speedily and lately it was at an all-time high.
