We found 11 online brokers that are appropriate for Trading TikTok Stock Investment Platforms.
TikTok is the latest sensation in the social media space and has made a name for itself with its short video content format. Unlike most social media sites which are public and can be traded on the stock exchange, TikTok is a different story. For starters, it is from China as compared to the majority of social media platforms that originate in the US.
Right now, TikTok is a private platform owned by the company known as ByteDance Limited, China. But that does not mean that company will stay private. In fact, the company behind TikTok plans to make its social media platform public and offer its shares to the general public.
At the time of this article, TikTok cannot be traded publicly on the stock market, since it is a privately held entity. The company behind TikTok, Bytedance, has plans in place to list the company in the USA stock market through an IPO, but there has been no exact date announced for this yet.
Before TikTok can go public in the USA, it must sell a portion of its stake to other US companies such as Oracle and Walmart. This arrangement was made due to the US government's intervention and potential worries about TikTok's impact on national security.
If the plans go ahead, then two US-based companies (Walmart and Oracle) will own a combined total of 20% TikTok stock. Oracle, a tech company, will own 12.5% of TikTok and Walmart, a retail giant, will only own 7.5% of TikTok Global. Only once these 2 companies own 20% of TikTok can the social media platform go public and start being traded in the US markets.
TikTok is being forced to sell a portion of its stake to other US companies. Under Trump's rule, Huawei was banned in the USA due to security concerns. Around the same time, President Trump's attention moved on to TikTok, which was becoming a big name and even a concern for the other US-based social media platforms.
To dilute the Chinese presence in TikTok, Trump's government proposed a plan for the US-based entities to own a portion of TikTok to make it more acceptable and transparent for the US authorities.
Third-party independent evaluations put the TikTok valuation at a staggering $60 billion (US Dollars).
Since the company is not public yet, there is no trading symbol or ticker for the company. Even if the company goes public, its operations will be limited to the USA and a few other regions. For the bulk of the userbase in China and other countries, the ByteDance will be responsible, and that Chinese company is not looking forward to going public anytime soon.
It will not be a first time occurence for a Chinese company to trade in the US markets. A Chinese-based tech giant Alibaba is already listed on the NYSE with the symbol 'BABA'.
So, if the company manages to get access to the US markets, its trading symbol will probably be something that resembles the name of the social media platform 'TikTok'.
From the available information, it is clear that the US-based operations of TikTok will be moved to the TikTok Global, and that that company will be owned by two famous US companies (Walmart & Oracle). Through this arrangement, the data of the US consumers will stay in the US, and the US companies can ensure privacy and protection of their user's data.
Oracle is a technology company and for it to own a piece of the social media platform is not something totally out of bounds. But it is a different story with Walmart, which could own 7.5% of TikTok in the near future. Walmart has no such history of owning a social media platform as its sole expertise is in the retail and online shopping niche.
So, to sum up, the founding Chinese company currently owns 100% of TikTok. However, that could change in the future as US companies could also become stakeholders of the social media platform. But it will only be for its operations in the USA and few other countries. The rest of the operations will remain under the control of ByteDance, which is a privately owned entity.
Even if the ByteDance stock goes public, it will be listed in the Chinese markets only.
If the TikTok global IPO becomes a reality, the news will spread very quickly, and other giants such as Snap, Facebook, and Twitter could face some serious competition from the new entrant.
Right now, it is still too early to say when the IPO process will be completed. It is no longer only about a company getting listed on the stock market as many other factors are involved.
