One of the most popular ways to trade on the Forex market is to simply look at what moves the US dollar. If you were to chart this, you would see that the dollar has been very consistent over the last several years, moving either up or down by a specific percentage. This has caused many traders to either hold their dollars and ride the momentum of the movement, or try to time the movements to know when it is best to buy or sell. There are three major factors you want to pay close attention to when trying to predict what moves the US dollar.
The first factor is a general indication of whether the US dollar will head in a positive or negative direction. One thing I like to do is create charts that display the open and high made on both the buying and selling transactions. On these charts, you will see the currency prices range from the lowest being sold at the current low to the highest being bought at the current high. What I am looking for here is a general upward trend, otherwise known as the 'head and shoulders' rule. This can give you a good indication of what currency prices may do in the future.
Another indicator that goes hand in hand with the 'head and shoulders' rule is momentum. As you probably know, momentum is the force by which a currency's market value moves from one point to the next. By looking at the type of trades that are being completed, you can start to get an idea of how well the Forex market is performing based on the momentum. For instance, if you see more long positions being traded than short ones, this means that traders are not taking advantage of the leverage available on the short side of the trade. When you find more trades that are being completed long than short, this again means that traders are leveraging the short position to create a larger gain.
Trading Forex is the exchange of one currency for another in the hopes that the currencies will move in accordance with the investors' expectations. There are 180 different types of official international currencies in existence. However, since more than ninety-five percent of all global transactions are conducted with the U.S. Dollar, British Pound, Japanese Yen, and Euro, most foreign currency exchanges are made with these currencies.
Foreign exchange traders trade Forex by buying and selling large amounts of a single currency pair. Foreign exchange traders who have a great deal of the currency they want to trade will attempt to purchase the currency before the price begins to increase, and they will then sell it once the value has decreased. They use the gains and losses to determine whether they should purchase or sell more currency or if they should simply hold onto their assets until the value decreases. In the end, all foreign exchange traders make transactions to make money.
Understanding what moves Forex is important if you want to engage with trading in the global market. No matter how great a trader you are, you cannot possibly keep up with the market. If you want to survive as a profitable Forex trader, then you need to know what moves the market and so that you can react to it quickly.
The first step is to use Forex signals. These are programs developed by Forex experts that give you specific orders to buy or sell. Most of these signals will tell you when you should buy and sell. Some will also tell you when it is best to short the currency pairing.
Next, make sure that you trade on a reliable platform. Some platforms are better than others, but they all offer the same basic features. This means that you should be able to trade from any computer that has internet access. If you cannot connect from home, then try a local brokerage firm.
Of course, all of this comes back to central banks. The fact is central banks all have their ways of influencing certain factors in the markets. In the foreign exchange market, interest rates and other interest-sensitive items are often controlled by governments all around the world. When it comes down to it, the decisions of central banks have a great impact on the direction of the price movements we have been discussing above.
What moves Forex when theresi no central bank to back up the currency? That would be leverage. Leverage is simply the ability to trade more of one commodity for the same amount of money. The greater the leverage you have, the higher the price movements can go. This is usually done through interest rates, with a certain amount of leverage being applied per day. It also depends on which currency pairs are being traded.
Take a look at the economic calendar at the times you plan to execute your trades. You should take a look at the price movements that are occurring in most of the major economic calendars in the world particularly during the week before each major holiday. For example, if there is an increase in oil prices, usually this will cause the dollar to increase against many other currencies. If the economy of any particular country has been hit by a natural disaster (or even if there hasnt been a disaster), the effect on the economy can be felt around the globe. Forex traders will know these situations and should be aware of how the interest rate outlooks on the economy are going to affect the value of the dollar.
