We found 11 online brokers that are appropriate for Trading Renminbi Investment Platforms.
The US once labelled China a currency manipulator and said that the Swiss navigate their monetary policies with negative interest rates. Back in 2019, the Chinese national currency Renminbi reached the lowest point. Renminbi fell 7 points to USD, which was the lowest point for the last decade. It went beyond the so-called symbolic level, but the country decided to extend the policy shift following the heated trade war with the United States.
The central bank confirmed the proposition that the weak Renminbi was caused by these circumstances, including the fresh tariff on Chinese products imported to the US. The tariff initiative from the Trump administration to impose a 10% tariff on Chinese products drove the People's Bank of China to prompt the monetary policy that led to an even weaker Renminbi.
Unlike other currencies, the Chinese government limits the Yuan's movement towards the USD, and the currency isn't freely traded. PBOC doesn't work like other central banks as it's under the intervention of the Chinese government, especially when major movements take place. The threats on the Renminbi has driven PBOC, as instructed by the authorities, to weaken the Yuan even further.
When the Renminbi is weaker, Chinese goods will be cheaper when bought with other currencies, and the export would be more competitive. Foreign consumers can buy Chinese products at lower prices, but it comes with a cost. The weak Renminbi can potentially escalate inflation, and importing goods or supplies to China become more costly. These would typically slow down the country's economy and drive Renminbi holders to invest in other currencies.
This isn't the first time PBOC drives Renminbi to lower levels. It also happened in 2015 where the currency was lowered for three years straight. During the recent global financial crisis, the Renminbi traded at the lowest point against the USD. The weak Renminbi was at the arbitrary threshold (7 Yuan per USD). Chinese government intervened with PBOC to keep the value within the threshold.
The US presidents 'currency manipulator accusation' towards China is based on the assumption that the Renminbi devaluation is deployed to support the country's exports. However, China denied the accusation and argued that they wouldn't engage in such competitive devaluations that are generally seen as a violation of global trading guidelines and severely affect the global market.
Some analyses predict that the Yuan will continue to weaken further. We can expect an even lower depreciation in Q4 2021 that may reach another five per cent. However, the lowering, as previously mentioned, would be maintained not to breach the symbolic threshold. No matter how far along the weak Renminbi is, it won't be traded under 7 per USD. As we've learned from the historical data, the lowest Renminbi against USD was in September 2019, when it touched the 7.2 level per USD. This condition has driven major concerns of investors and traders as they wondered whether it would go below the 7 level.
However, the accusation isn't only a gimmick as both countries are in a sustained trade war. The US can easily see and accuse China of taking advantage by pressing the Renminbi down. However, we can also see how the administration put a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. The weaker Yuan can be deployed to offset the tariff barriers and to maintain economic growth. As the major rival of the US, the Yuan's major devaluation sufficiently drives deflation throughout the world. That could have been why the weak Yuan is carefully maintained within the threshold.
The Chinese Renminbi can move upwards as the central bank increases the interest rates higher than the USD and EURO. At this point, the country attracts more capital to raise the value of the Yuan. Investors have strong confidence in the Yuan's strength as they've noticed it's not excessively concerned by the Chinese authorities that have strong controls on the currency. The stronger YEN is not about the authorities and policies but also about the weaker USD strengthening the pair.
China has ended its sustained weak currency that formerly sparked deflation across the world. The Renminbi is even at a superior level against the USD, ending the investors' concern about the Yuan's extreme weakening. The currency has been strengthening even though the global pandemic weakened it in 2020. The country is recovering, and that drives the currency to strengthen consistently.
The stronger Yuan may make Chinese exported products more expensive, but it would lift the country's purchasing power on commodities or raw materials for their manufacturing industry. As opposed to the weaker Yuan that drives global-scale deflation, the trading partners would import inflation from China.
