The cryptocurrency market jumped over 350 percent in February, with Polkadot trading as high as $42. Now, several enthusiasts are raising their joint passive voice to indicate that the currency may reach $50 this year. Its recent popularity has fostered a strong urge among analysts for predicting Polkadot's future value.
With the increase in popularity for Polkadot in recent months it is believed that it will be a good investment for the short term; a year or two at least.
Established in 2017, the brainchild of Ethereum co-founder, Gavin Wood, Polkadot is in its infancy. The first block was launched in May 2020 and the so-called DOT coin was rolled out phase-wise. Today, even before its first anniversary, it has positioned itself as the 6th largest cryptocurrency with respect to market capitalisation. Its present valuation is around $33 billion and supply is at 920.8 million.
Delivered by a Switzerland-based Web3 Foundation, Polkadot is being used for governance, bonding, and staking by its network. The term governance here means its community can use the coin to vote on changes to the network. Bonding refers to locking certain units of the coins for a specific period. Staking is simply the reward for holding the funds in a digital wallet.
Polkadot differs from Bitcoin significantly and it can be upgraded to introduce new features or fix up bugs without the need for either a hard fork or spinoff. Bitcoin lacks such a feature.
The Web3 Foundation granted last year some $4.1m to 145 proposals to support the Polkadot ecosystem. A recent blog post briefs that the project has been designed as an underlying infrastructure for the purpose of realising security, interoperability, and scalability.
The foundation further added that DOT allows parachains, which is a simpler version of blockchain and called parallelizable chains, and networks such as Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin interoperate via bridges.
A bridge is simply a compatible connection between users and blockchain to transfer tokens securely, whether publicly or privately. Such bridges are being developed to connect Polkadot with other blockchains. The move is essentially focused on connecting communities.
There are two types of bridges. One is centralised and the other is decentralised. The first example is based on trusting a central authority, while the second is without trust and relies on code to interact between blockchains.
Polkadot once traded at $35. It is believed, based on technical analysis, that there is a powerful resistance to its price at the trending value. Algorithm-based online forecasting argues the price may jump up to $44.69 in April and may even reach as much as $83.10 by the end of 2021.
There is an additional Polkadot prediction for next year. It is said the prices may peak at the end of 2024. It may reach $140.73. By December 2024 the coin might trade at $197.80 and by March 2026 the value could be at $324.02.
Meanwhile, DigitalCoin's Polkadot prediction is slightly different, even though its note is in a bullish phase. It argues that the price may not rise so rapidly, instead assuming the coin will trade at $53.26 by the end of 2021. In 2024, it will rise to $63.49, and in 2024 the value will be $75.08. DOT may reach as high as $158.97 in 2028.
Coinpedia forecast the price of one Polkadot may reach $50 by the end of this year and by the end of 2024 it will be at $70.20. In 2025 the price may rally between $120 and $150. By December 2025, the trading value will be between $170 and $200.
Polkadot has a promising prediction. It is new in the sector, but its recent jump in value seems convincing to many investors. The current price is at $40, and around a week or two ago the value was $35. Analysts believe the price may jump to around $44 in April. Another Polkadot prediction is that it will move in a positive direction and is expected to rise to $140 by the end of next year.
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts thinking about whether or not to invest in Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin may consider accommodating Polkadot in their portfolio. Analysts argue that the returns from investment in this coin will be satisfactory across the period of the next two or three years.
