When you are determining a trading strategy to maximize your opportunities and mitigate the risks, you will use orders as the tools to execute your strategy.
Orders are important as these will be the bridge between your action and the consequences. You can use the orders to enter the trade, maximize your opportunity, as well as mitigate the available risks in the market.
In the same way as many other tools, orders come in different types and each type has different characteristics and roles that you need to consider. As an advanced trader, you will need to pick the right orders which are suitable with your needs and requirements and proceed to attain what you really desire the most.
The basic type of the orders is market order. But it does not end up here. The market order is divided into different categories as mentioned below.
A limit order type is the type of order which allows the trader to purchase or sell at specific price. Sell limit is filled at the specific price or higher. Buy limit order is conducted at the particular price or lower.
A limit order helps you to determine the entry or exit point of the trade. It gives you control to mitigate the risks so that you can exit when the situation is good. But here is the thing. The price specified in the set must be met so that you can execute the order.
One will set the rate earlier and when the rate is met, the stop order will trigger the market order. When you buy stop order, it will trigger a market order if the defined price is met. Meanwhile, it will be a sell stop order that triggers the market order when there is a confirmed bid price.
The traders will proceed with both stop orders at the best prices. You can mitigate the risks of trading by using Stop Orders or Stop Loss Orders. These are used to limit the risks of a downward market.
Thanks to Stop Orders, you will get the confirmation from the market before getting involved with the trade.
Ones will specify the amount of pips from the market price. Trailing stop will help the traders to automatically trail the position when the market movement is in the traders favour. Keep in mind that a Trailing Stop order will happen when the market moves according to your defined requirement. In the meantime, when the predefined pips number is not met, the market order will continue instead.
In this case, the finalization will depend on the stop order at the next rate. How quickly the trailing stop actions will depend on the liquidity level off the market.
Contingent orders are also common types of the orders to use if there are some different scenarios that could happen in the future. Contingent orders are executed when one of the orders is activated. That is the first term to meet in order to activate the other orders in the market.
Contingent orders can consist of different types of orders and are flexible enough to cater to the more advanced traders who use particular trading strategies. Amongst the many types of contingent orders, there are two types which we think are most relevant for all levels of traders: if/then and if/then OCO.
If/then order is the chain of the orders that requires the first order first then the second. So, if the first order is executed, then the second order will become active. Keep in mind that the second order is a single order.
The main feature of the single order is its unassociated label. That means this order is not related to a trade and stands on its own feet. But if the first order is not executed, the second order which we called as single order will not be active, or it will be in dormant mode.
OCO is the abbreviation of one-cancels-other. If we are talking about if/then OCO, the way it works will be different with if/then.
In the if/then OCO order, there are different traits that come in the second order. If the first order is executed, the second order will become active, unassociated, and one-cancels-other order.
Keep in mind that this order stands on its own feet. It will act when there is an update in the position, and if the first order is not executed, the second order will remain dormant.
