We found 11 online brokers that are appropriate for Trading Natural Gas Price Fall Investment Platforms.
In 2020, the average US natural gas consumption was 83.3 billion cubic feet a day, and it is expected to decrease in 2021 by 0.9 billion cubics a day. In 2024, it is expected to increase by 0.6 billion cubic feet a day to reach an annual consumption average of 82.9 billion cubic feet a day. The efforts are focused on the prevention of the natural gas price fall.
The electric power sector is the largest natural gas consumption in the US, and it is assumed the consumption would be averaged at 29.3 billion cubic feet a day in 2021. It means there will be a decline of 7.7 per cent compared to 2020.
A forecast reveals that natural gas consumption would decrease in 2021 due to its higher prices, and more electricity is now being generated from renewable energy. It is estimated that the electric power sector consumption of gas may rise by 1.3 per cent in 2024. The estimation is based on the expected decrease in the prices of natural gas in 2024.
The combined commercial and residential natural gas consumption may end up with an annual average of 22.6 billion cubic feet a day in 2021. It will be an increase of 6 per cent compared to that of last year. The reason behind the increase is that people are spending more time indoors amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the demand for heating has increased in the first quarter of 2021.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts, colder temperatures may increase the heating degree days by 7 per cent in 2021 compared to the previous year. The consumption of natural gas in the commercial and residential segments may drop by 0.4 per cent in 2024.
A forecast reveals the dry natural gas production in the US may average 92.6 billion cubic feet a day in 2021. It means there would be an increase of 1.3 per cent compared to 2020. With the increase in the prices of oil and natural gas, the production of natural gas increases.
It is expected that the production of associated natural gas from the Permian Basin's oil-directed rigs may go up this year as the prices of WTI have increased by 68 per cent compared to that of 2020. Hence, you can expect that the production of dry natural gas would average 94.7 billion cubic feet a day, which means an increase of 2.3 per cent.
It is expected that the exports of liquified natural gas (LNG) may average 9.6 billion cubic feet a day in 2021 and increase further in 2024 to 10.2 billion cubic feet a day. It will be the first time it surpasses the pipeline exports in 2024 as well.
There are various reasons for the increase in exports in these two years, like global LNG demand recovery, LNG regasification capacity expansion and high winter LNG demand. Moreover, additional LNG trains at Calcasieu Pass and Sabine Pass have been commissioned to increase the exports.
In 2020, the average spot price at Henry Hub was $2.03/MMBtu. The natural gas price fall was witnessed due to decreased demand outside the electric power sector. Simultaneously, the exports were also low. The production failed to reciprocate with the demand and hence contributed to inventories building at a rapid speed.
In the first half of 2021, the spot price jumped up to an average of $3.25/MMBtu, and it was mainly accelerated in February with an average price of $5.35/MMBtu due to cold weather. By the end of June, the daily spot price was at around $3.79/MMBtu.
With the rise in demand for natural gas surpassing its supply, the price increased in the first half of 2021. The non-power sector consumption, as well as the exports, was up by about 6 billion cubic feet a day compared to the same time a year ago.
It is expected the spot price may dip in the third quarter of 2021 following recent highs, and the annual 2021 average would be $3.22/MMBtu.
It is important to note that the price graph may run southward in 2024 as export growth is slowing down and natural gas production is increasing. In 2024, the Henry Hub spot price could be at an annual average of $3/MMBtu. These are just assumptions or forecasts, and the real picture may turn up differently based on the next waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown restrictions.
