We found 11 online brokers that are appropriate for Trading Key Price Pattern Investment Platforms.
Any trader who has some experience in the field knows a thing or two about the price patterns and how they work. However, I have yet to see anyone who actually discusses the success rate of these patterns. Like, what's the chance in percentage for a double top or double bottom price pattern to be accurate? Today, we will look at the important price patterns and how they can be used to view the current trend of a market.
After analyzing price action over a period of 10 years & looking at 200,000 (200 K) patterns, we have compiled the success rate of some of the top price action patterns. Only those patterns were included, which were formed completely and also had a breakout in the right direction.
A bull flag pattern appears during a strong bullish trend and is considered a continuation pattern. The bottom of this pattern appears like a pole, and the top portion resembles a flag. That's why it was named 'flag pattern.'
After a strong uptrend, candlesticks start to make lower highs and lower lows. It almost resembles a bearish channel. The average number of candlesticks in that channel (flag) was around 20. You can think of this channel as a holding pattern as the bulls and bears try to decide the next market move. A break above the upper side of the channel (Flag) means the bull flag pattern is completed.
After analyzing the bull flag pattern, we found its success rate to be around 67% (approximately).
The bear flag is a bearish price pattern and appears during a downtrend. Unlike the bull flag, a bear flag is more of an inverse flag. In this pattern, the poll is on the upper side, while the flag is on the bottom side.
After a strong bearish move, a small bullish channel (flag) appears. Once a candlestick closes below the lower trendline, it signifies the completion of the bear flag pattern & also a trading opportunity. The flag portion can be identified from higher highs and higher lows, with around 20 candlesticks in the flag portion.
After analyzing the bear flag pattern, we found its success rate to be around 67% (approximately).
For a flag pattern (bullish or bearish) to be accurate, you can look for these features:
In an ascending triangle pattern, the price attempts to break above a resistance line and makes several higher lows in the process. By combining a resistance line and an upward slope (trendline), we get a triangle-shaped pattern. As the distance between 2 lines becomes less and less, the pressure to break outside the triangle pattern increases. A successful break above the ascending triangle completes this pattern. A success rate of 72% can be achieved with ascending triangle pattern.
In a descending triangle pattern, bears attempt to pierce through a support zone. A fresh wave of buyers at the support line pushes the price back several times. During this struggle, the price makes several lower highs. By combining a support line and a downward slope (trendline), we get a triangle-shaped pattern. A break below the support line can be taken as a signal that the bears have finally won the battle. A success rate of 72% can be achieved with descending triangle pattern.
This is a continuation price pattern and can be either bullish or bearish. The upper line and the lower line of the channel must have the same slope and angle. A good way to ensure that the angle is the same is to draw a trendline at the bottom or above. After drawing a trendline on either side, simply duplicate (clone) it and place it on the other side.
If a falling channel appears during an uptrend, it is considered an ascending channel. On the other hand, a rising channel during a bearish trend is called a descending channel.
Ascending channel success rate is claimed to be around 73%, while the descending channel's success rate is claimed to be around 72%.
The pattern is only completed after a price breakout outside the trendlines. To take a cautious approach, it is recommended only to take a trade once a few candles form outside the channel.
The three types of price pattern charts mentioned above show that they all carry a high degree of success rate. If we count both the bullish and bearish patterns, the total turns out to be around 6. In all of the cases, the success rate averaged around 67% to 73%.
