The hype period of the cryptocurrencies (2017 - 2018) saw many altcoin prices increased including IOTA. It was also when the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies was being discussed and how it had the potential to change the world.
IOTA plans on becoming a default currency for any potential transactions between connected devices. You can think of connected devices such as cars, phones, fridges,s and so on.
A scenario where two connected devices need to make a transaction
Let's say you are going in your car and see a toll plaza ahead. Normally you would stop your car, pay the fee and then go. With IOTA and upcoming IoT technology, your car will automatically pay the fee of toll plaza almost instantly. Your car wouldn't even stop.
That's the type of future we are heading into & IOTA wants to be at the center of it all.
If this project takes off the ground, it has the potential to totally revolutionize the world. But then again, many crypto projects make tall claims but fail to deliver on the ground. The project called IOTA is still in its early stages but has backing from big brands such as Microsoft, BOSCH, Volkswagen, and others. To put it short, this project has huge potential ahead if things go according to the plan.
As mentioned in our earlier example, we are entering the age of the 'Internet of Things'. In this future, all the devices will be connected & in constant communication with each other. This would give rise to a new economy which is machine-to-machine. With no human or third party involved, there will be a need for a system to make small transactions. Whether it's IOTA or any other project that can fullfill this need... Will emerge victoriously and become the leader.
The default currency of the IOTA project is the MIOTA coin. However, it is available in many exchanges with its real name 'IOTA' too. So if you can not find it with one name, consider trying another.
The highest price achieved by MIOTA/USD was around $5.79. In March 2020, the coin saw its lowest point in history and was trading at $0.07 per coin. Today, MIOTA/USD usually trades around $1.34 per coin.
If we compare the current prices with an all-time high of $5.79, that's a drop of more than 95%. Considering that the coin fell from such a high point, is it a good time to buy it? Well, that totally depends on how the technology evolves. The idea behind IOTA is really revolutionizing... However, how well it progresses & becomes usable in real life is the real problem.
Today we will take a look at what's ahead for the MIOTA coin as well as the IOTA. We will also list the potential forecast from experts and where they see the coin in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Unlike the rest of the crowd, IOTA doesn't run on the blockchain. Instead, it uses a different technology named tangle. It is just a fancy name for distributed ledger technology.
According to the company, Tangle has the potential to power the next age of the internet i.e. 'Web 3.0'
In any blockchain, data is usually stored in blocks. However, you can think of tangle as a stream of transactions connected together.
Another major benefit of this technology is that it offers zero fees. Unlike other cryptocurrencies whose transaction costs keep increasing with time, IOTA plans to stay feeless. With no fees on transactions, the IoT economy will be able to grow at a much faster pace. Also having no fees give an advantage to this project over other technologies.
When the coin first got public attention, it was the golden era of cryptocurrencies. There was a lot of speculation as to how high this new shiny coin could go in the future...
At that time, the coin was trading around $0.27 and that's the price where it is trading currently. Since the supply is limited, the standard demand and supply concept shows that its price should increase as long as demand increases.
By the end of 2017, IOTA/USD had skyrocketed to a new high of $5.79. The major impulse behind the jump was partnerships and positive news for the technology.
Although the technology was promising it felt like investors were not convinced. As a result of selling pressure, the price of each coin dropped from its high levels. In 2018, the coin was worth only around $0.20. Considering the high it made, IOTA fell by more than 90%.
In the last months of 2019, the coin was trading even lower than the last year. IOTA/USD was around $0.14 in late 2019.
Today, the price is trading above $1.50 and seems to be recovering from all the previous bear years it endured.
Take a look at expert's view about this technology which wants to disrupt the IoT economy
