We found 11 online brokers that are appropriate for Trading Forex Units Investment Platforms.
Forex units term is common in currency trading. Forex is traded in lots, which are specific amounts. When Forex traders place orders on a trading platform, the orders are basically placed in sizes, and these are called lots.
The standard lot size in Forex trading is 100,000 units. The currencies can also be bought or sold in less than standard units and these are mini, micro and nano, which are 10,000, 1,000 and 100 units respectively.
Some brokers show actual currency Forex units while others show quantity in lots. It is well known that change in currency value with another currency is measured in pips and this is a really small percentage. Investors take advantage of such pips, which are basically very small in value, by trading large amounts to gain significant profit.
Suppose a trader uses a 100,000 units lot size, below are some examples of how his profits or losses may become significant.
First, USD/JPY at exchange rate of 110.80: (01/110.80) x 100,000 = $8.34 per pip.
Similarly, USD/CHF at exchange rate 1.4555: (.0001 / 1.4555) x 100,000 = $6.87 per pip.
Now, let's see if the USD is not the base currency.
First, EUR/USD at exchange rate 1.1930: (.0001 / 1.1930) x 100.000 = 8.38 x 1.1930 = $9.99734 and this is rounded at $10 per pip.
Similarly, GBP/USD at exchange rate 1.8040: (.0001 / 1.8040) x 100,000 = 5.54 x 1.8040 - 9.99416 and this is rounded at $10 a pip.
It is usually wondered how a small investor may trade a large amount. Just imagine a bank is offering to buy $100,000 currencies. Is it possible for an individual? However, it is common for the banks to ask $1,000 as a deposit and this it holds and not necessarily keeps. This is how leverage works in Forex trading and it depends on a broker as well as at what leverage one feels comfortable with.
A broker first requires an initial deposit and it is called margin. After making a deposit, an individual can start trading with the leverage provided.
Let us understand with an example. If leverage is 100:1, it means a trader can open a position worth $100,000 by investing just $1,000. This means even if the investing capacity is low, one can trade comparatively a larger volume. However, the risk here is too high as both profits and losses are magnified. The deposit amount varies across brokers. In the above example, the margin is 1 percent. Based on the policy of a broker it may be 5 percent, 10 percent, 20 percent and so on.
An individual buys a currency using an offer or ask price. Similarly, an individual sells a currency using bid price.
Spread is the difference between buy and sell price. It turns out to be revenue for the broker.
If a Forex position is held overnight, a swap or overnight premium is charged. It is called a charge in a standard term. However, one can also earn a positive amount. If one buys AUD/CHF pair currencies, you can earn some money as a swap. It is calculated automatically by the brokers overnight.
Forex is the largest financial market in the world. It has a daily turnover of more than $5 trillion. It can be traded any time of the day as it is open 24 hours from Monday to Friday. It is one of the best part-time professions for many. However, the industry is volatile as no single government or country holds control of it.
In this article titled Forex Units, we basically discussed the lot sizes in Forex trading first and thereafter tried to understand leverage and margin. The Forex units are decided by brokers and it differs across them as it is not possible for an individual to trade a huge amount of currencies. This is the reason leverage trading has gained popularity in recent times. It enables you to experience greater worth with investing less.
