Forex Trends

Just like with other businesses, Forex traders also have strategies that determine their success. One such strategy lies in the ability to determine or predict trading trends. Forex trends can boost the chances of making winning trades over a specific period of time.

Forex trends could be upwards, downwards, short term or even long term. However, what matters most is the ability to identify them and take those actions that will result in more wins. After all, the whole essence of the Forex trade is to make profits. Forex traders typically make great use of a price chart as well as Forex trendlines when it comes to determining Forex trends, but there are several other factors that come into play. These factors include;

Economic Factors

The state of the economy can go a long way to determine Forex trends. This assertion can be explained by the fact that when an economy is strong, its currency is also likely to be stronger. The effect of a good economy is also often reflected on investment which goes a long way to increase demand for the currency. This is exactly the reason using gold as an alternative to fiat currencies has resulted in currency demands in gold producing countries such as Canada, Australia and South Africa.

This was typically the case in Australia, where the demand for gold alongside higher interest rates between the years 2009 and 2012 led to a demand for its currency. On the other hand, the demand for a currency will become lower in countries that do not produce gold like the USA. It is therefore apparent that whenever there is an upward exchange rate trend of the Australian currency against the US dollars, there is likely to be some potential of making winning trades in Australian dollars. Of course, the reverse is true whenever there is a downward exchange rate.

Technical Indicators

Technical indicators can also be used to predict Forex trends. However, to effectively determine those technical indicators, Forex traders must first and foremost be able to make a distinction between trends and ranges. To differentiate between these two things, traders must also be able to make a demarcation on where and when a trend starts and ends.

The best way to differentiate between a trend and a sideways trading range is to do some technical analysis. Such analysis is often made with indicators like closing prices and price lows over a specific period of time. The results will always likely be in a dynamic price equilibrium. That said, the whole essence of technical indicators is to understand price trends, including upwards and downwards price trends. The assumption for most Forex traders is always that whenever prices break down below equilibrium, there will likely be a downtrend. On the flip side, there will be a potential uptrend if prices rise above equilibrium.

Market Trends

The size of the market can also affect Forex trends. This assertion is backed by the fact that whenever market trends move, prices could also move and subsequently return as what is known as volatility decreases and increases. It is worthy to note that with volatility, market prices often go back to their mean over a specific period. Of course, the result is always the opportunities to buy or sell depending on the direction of the trend.

Although these factors that have been discussed above can affect Forex trends, the importance of using Forex trendlines can never be overemphasised. The truth is that drawing Forex trendlines is actually one of the easiest ways to identify a trend. The reason is that these trendlines make it possible for Forex traders to easily identify or determine all those areas where it is possible for the market to fall off and instead move in the opposite direction. Forex trendlines typically consist of highs and lows, but it is usually easier for traders to identify the right trend from a visual perspective by merely drawing the trend line and trying to connect all the multiple highs and lows in an uptrend and downtrend respectively.

Forex Trader Priority

A trader’s priority should be to search for long entries into the market before the uptrend ever lapses. It may be granted that Forex traders can effectively determine trading through factors such as economic indicators, technical indications and market trends, but there is truly no single trading strategy that guarantees 100% success. It is therefore of the utmost importance for traders to be vigilant enough to identify all the other strategies that can result in winning trades. Besides, after understanding all the trends, it is also imperative for traders to learn how to trade in a world where there could be sudden or spontaneous fluctuations in the identified trends.

To tell the truth, there are no clear cut rules to Forex trading and even short term trades could sometimes yield amazing results.
