Companies Of The Future Guide

Analysis by Andrew Blumer, Updated Last updated – August 22, 2026

Companies of the Future

When I think about companies of the future, I am less interested in businesses simply moving existing services online and more interested in companies building the infrastructure for the next technological era. Artificial intelligence, advanced semiconductors, data storage, autonomous vehicles, robotics, defence software and space technology are areas where I believe enormous amounts of money will be invested over the coming decades. Companies such as NVIDIA, SanDisk, Tesla, SpaceX and Palantir are interesting to me because each is positioned around one or more of these long term trends.

I also look at these companies from an investment perspective. If I had $100,000 to invest, I would not put the entire amount into one company simply because I believed its technology had a bright future. I might invest $10,000 in one artificial intelligence company, $7,500 in a data storage business, $7,500 in an autonomous technology company and spread the remaining capital across other industries and investments. If one $10,000 investment eventually became worth $30,000, it could have a meaningful effect on the portfolio. If it fell 60 percent to $4,000, diversification would prevent that single mistake from destroying the entire portfolio.

NVIDIA

NVIDIA

NVIDIA is one of the first companies I look at when thinking about the future of artificial intelligence. The company became famous for graphics processors used in gaming, but its technology has developed into critical computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence, data centres, scientific computing and other demanding applications. What interests me most is that the artificial intelligence revolution requires enormous computing power. Before companies can sell many AI powered products, someone has to provide the processors, networking technology and software required to train and operate those systems.

I think of this in terms of infrastructure. During a gold rush, there can be thousands of people looking for gold, but businesses selling essential equipment can make money regardless of which individual miner succeeds. Artificial intelligence could develop in a similar way. If 1,000 companies are spending billions of dollars building AI systems, NVIDIA does not necessarily need to predict which AI application becomes the eventual winner. It can potentially benefit from supplying computing infrastructure to many of them.

The numbers become interesting very quickly. Imagine a company building an AI data centre requiring 20,000 advanced processors at an average system related cost of $25,000 each. That represents roughly $500 million before considering additional networking, storage, electricity and infrastructure. Multiply similar investments across hundreds of companies and governments and it becomes easier for me to understand why AI infrastructure has become such an important market.

The future opportunity for NVIDIA could extend beyond today's generative AI boom. Robotics, autonomous vehicles, medical research, industrial automation and digital simulations could all require increasingly powerful computing systems. My concern as an investor would be valuation and competition. A great company can still become a poor investment if I pay an unrealistic price for its future earnings. If I invested $10,000 at an extremely high valuation and the market later reduced the valuation by 40 percent, I could be sitting on $6,000 even if the underlying company continued growing.

SanDisk

SanDisk

SanDisk interests me because artificial intelligence is not only creating demand for computing power. It is also creating enormous quantities of data that need to be stored. Videos, photographs, autonomous vehicle information, AI training data, business records and machine generated information all require storage. As the amount of digital information increases, I believe storage will remain one of the less glamorous but essential parts of the technology economy.

I can see the importance of this simply by looking at how my own storage requirements have changed. A few years ago, 256GB might have seemed like a large amount of personal storage. Today, high resolution video, games and professional applications can consume hundreds of gigabytes surprisingly quickly. The same principle becomes much larger inside a data centre. If an organisation needs 100 petabytes of additional storage, even a relatively small change in the cost per terabyte can represent millions of dollars.

For me, the investment opportunity is therefore connected to the continued explosion of data. AI models need data, businesses need to retain information and consumers continue creating larger files. However, storage is also a competitive and cyclical industry. Prices can fall when supply exceeds demand. I would therefore pay close attention to manufacturing capacity, margins, capital expenditure and demand from data centres before deciding how much money I wanted exposed to the sector.

Tesla

Tesla

Tesla is particularly interesting to me because I no longer think its future can be judged entirely by the number of electric cars it sells. Electric vehicles remain the foundation of the business, but the larger long term opportunities could include autonomous driving, energy storage, artificial intelligence and robotics. Whether Tesla successfully converts those opportunities into profitable businesses is one of the biggest questions I would consider before investing.

Autonomous transportation shows why the potential numbers can become so large. Imagine a future autonomous vehicle producing $150 of revenue per day for 300 days per year. That would equal $45,000 in annual revenue from one vehicle. A network of 100,000 vehicles operating at the same level would theoretically produce $4.5 billion in annual revenue before electricity, maintenance, insurance, financing, platform costs and other expenses. At 1 million vehicles, the theoretical revenue would reach $45 billion. These are examples rather than forecasts, but they demonstrate why investors place such a high value on successful autonomous technology.

Robotics could create another opportunity. If a useful humanoid robot eventually cost $30,000 and could perform work that otherwise cost a business $50,000 per year in labour, the economics could become attractive very quickly. A factory buying 100 robots for $3 million could potentially compare that investment with several million dollars of recurring annual labour expenses. The technology would have to be reliable, safe and genuinely productive for those economics to work.

Tesla therefore represents both opportunity and risk to me. If autonomous driving and robotics become major businesses, the company of the future could look very different from the car manufacturer of today. If those technologies take considerably longer than expected, investors may have paid for profits that do not arrive on schedule. That uncertainty is exactly why I would control the size of my investment rather than assuming an exciting technological vision guarantees investment returns.

SpaceX

SpaceX

SpaceX represents one of the most ambitious areas of future investment because it is attempting to make access to space more frequent and economical. From my perspective, reusable rockets changed the way I think about the economics of the space industry. If expensive equipment can be reused instead of discarded after every mission, the cost structure of launching satellites, cargo and eventually people can change dramatically.

The opportunity is much larger than rockets alone. Satellite internet, communications, scientific missions, national security, lunar exploration and potentially future missions to Mars all depend on reliable access to space. I think satellite communications are especially important because they turn space infrastructure into a service that can potentially generate recurring revenue from customers on Earth.

For example, 10 million customers paying an average of $100 per month would represent $1 billion in monthly revenue and $12 billion in annual revenue before expenses. At 20 million customers, the same calculation would produce $24 billion in annual revenue. Building, launching and replacing satellites requires enormous amounts of capital, so revenue alone does not determine profitability, but recurring subscriptions can create a powerful business model when combined with launch capabilities.

SpaceX is also different from the other companies in this discussion because investors cannot simply treat it like an ordinary publicly traded stock. That makes access, valuation and liquidity important considerations for anyone looking at it as an investment. I would be particularly careful about paying an excessive private market valuation simply because I believed the space industry had a promising future.

Palantir Technologies

Palantir Technologies

Palantir is one of the companies that makes me think about what happens after businesses collect enormous quantities of data. Storing information is useful, but organisations also need to understand it and make decisions from it. Palantir builds software designed to combine information from different sources and turn it into something governments and businesses can use operationally.

Artificial intelligence could make this type of software considerably more important. A large manufacturer might have information coming from 50 factories, 10,000 machines, thousands of employees and hundreds of suppliers. Finding a problem manually could take hours or days. If software identifies a production problem within minutes and prevents a factory from losing $500,000 through downtime, the economic value of that software becomes easier for me to understand.

The same concept can apply to logistics, healthcare, defence, energy and financial services. If a company spends $5 million implementing an advanced data platform but subsequently saves $10 million per year through improved inventory management, lower downtime and better decisions, management has a strong financial reason to continue using the technology. This is one reason I think enterprise AI could become a much larger business over the next decade.

From an investment perspective, however, I would separate my enthusiasm for AI from the price I am willing to pay for Palantir shares. Rapidly growing software companies can trade at substantial valuations. If I paid $20,000 for an investment based on expectations of exceptional growth and those expectations weakened, a 50 percent decline would leave me with $10,000. The quality of the technology would not prevent the market from repricing the shares.

What the Future Holds

When I put these companies together, I see an interconnected technology ecosystem rather than five completely separate investments. NVIDIA provides computing power for artificial intelligence. SanDisk represents the enormous storage requirements created by an increasingly data driven economy. Palantir represents the software layer that can help organisations turn data and AI into decisions. Tesla is attempting to take AI into the physical world through vehicles, energy systems and robotics. SpaceX is extending advanced technology beyond Earth through reusable launch systems and satellite communications.

I believe one of the biggest changes over the next 10 to 20 years will be the movement of artificial intelligence from computer screens into physical infrastructure. AI will not only generate text, images and software. It could control robots, optimise factories, assist vehicles, manage electrical systems, analyse satellite information and coordinate increasingly complex organisations. That means the biggest winners may not necessarily be the companies producing the most visible AI applications. Companies providing chips, storage, energy, data infrastructure, industrial software and communications could become equally important.

The amount of investment required could be enormous. Imagine that a group of major technology companies collectively invests $500 billion over several years in AI infrastructure. That money has to go somewhere. It could be spent on processors, memory, storage, data centres, electricity generation, cooling systems, networking equipment, construction and software. I therefore would not limit my investment thinking to one famous AI stock. I would look for businesses positioned throughout the infrastructure chain.

How I Would Invest in the Future Verdict

If I were building a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio around these themes, I would still avoid putting the entire amount into futuristic companies. I might allocate $15,000 to NVIDIA, $7,500 to data storage and semiconductor investments, $10,000 to Tesla, $7,500 to Palantir and keep any SpaceX exposure relatively limited if suitable private investment access were available. That would represent $40,000 of the portfolio. I could then place another $40,000 into diversified investments such as broad market funds and established companies, while keeping $20,000 available for other sectors, opportunities and cash reserves.

I would also invest gradually rather than assuming I could identify the perfect purchase price. If I wanted a $12,000 position in a particular company, for example, I might invest $3,000 initially and make additional $3,000 investments at different times. This would not guarantee a better return, but it would reduce my dependence on making one perfectly timed decision.

Most importantly, I have learned to separate a company's future from its stock price. NVIDIA could dominate an important part of artificial intelligence and still become overvalued. Tesla could make major advances in robotics and still experience periods of disappointing investment returns. Palantir could grow rapidly while its share price remains volatile. SanDisk could benefit from expanding storage requirements while still experiencing an industry downturn. SpaceX could transform access to space while private investors face valuation and liquidity risks.

The future I see is one in which computing becomes more powerful, data becomes more valuable, machines become increasingly autonomous and access to space becomes more routine. NVIDIA, SanDisk, Tesla, SpaceX and Palantir each provide a different way of participating in that transformation. I would not expect every prediction surrounding these companies to become reality, but I believe the technologies they are pursuing give us a useful picture of where trillions of dollars of future investment could eventually be directed.
