It can be said that the cryptocurrency revolution is spreading through all sorts of industries. In fact, many businesses are starting to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. However, the growth of cryptocurrencies has been followed by a lot of controversies. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of misconceptions among the public as well. The rapid growth of crypto assets, especially Bitcoin, have created a get rich quick mentality in a lot of new investors which is simply easier said than done.
With the rapid growth of Bitcoin's value and the promises to grow its value, many people have become more susceptible to various scams. In the pursuit of these get rich quick schemes using Bitcoin, many aspiring investors have been scammed by false promises. A lot of these scammers use accounts of famous personalities to push victims to perform certain actions, such as sending Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies to fake addresses. The reasons why these scams are popular among the cryptocurrency market are due to how every transaction is anonymous and transactions cannot be reverted. This means that once the victim sends the cryptocurrency to the scammer, the victim does not have a chance of retrieving the sent cryptocurrencies.
Recently, there have been a lot of scams involving the British billionaire Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group. It is a huge company with a portfolio that includes hundreds of companies. The British billionaire has been known to be a strong supporter of Bitcoin in the past and believes in the coin's capacity to revolutionize our economy. Unfortunately, his support for the popular cryptocurrency has resulted in a number scams that promised get rich quick investments using Bitcoin. These might be through fake ads, fabricated stories, and misleading social media pages.
Richard Branson highlighted these scams, among which included the story of the Bitcoin Trader. This was an investment scheme which was advertised as a CNN article. It even included perfect editing and the use of CNN’s logo. The article in place wrote that 560000 British quit their jobs after Branson speculated in Bitcoin-related financial technology. However, this story was fabricated and misled many in making wrong decisions regarding their finances.
Richard Branson is only a few of the famous figures to have been used for these scams. Scammers have used the names of other public figures too, including Elon Musk. In response to this serious issue, a British writer, opened a case against Facebook for allowing the publishing of such fake stories which misused the image of public figures for these scams. Unfortunately, the scams are continuing to spread on other social media platforms. Hackers are doing so by using fake accounts to impersonate other famous figures, such as the creator of Ethereum, which is another type of cryptocurrency. In response, Richard Branson and other famous figures have been heavily criticizing social media for the lack of action against such scams.
With the increasing popularity of cryptocurrencies, a lot of misleading stories and promises regarding Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have been surfacing as well. Many are getting allured by promises of being able to get rich quick through simple investments. While such promises may sound good on paper, it is simply not so easy to earn a profit from cryptocurrency trading. If aspiring investors identify something that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Always question if the story that you are reading has credible logical reasoning. Just because it has a logo or a famous person involved, does not mean it is authentic. The public should always be careful of what you read and always double-check every decision that you take regarding your finances.
