Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is one of the most famous and important forks of Bitcoin. Since its inception, it has managed to crack the top 10 and now sits at the #7 spot in terms of capitalization.
During 2017, the developers were debating on how to solve the high transaction costs and scalability issues faced by Bitcoin. A group came with this idea. Increasing the size of blocks and reducing the data that needs to be verified. This idea had the potential to increase the speed of the network as well as lower transaction costs. However, not everyone agreed with the idea... As a result, Bitcoin Cash was forked from Bitcoin.
This fork of bitcoin offers two prominent features or changes. Bigger block size and a technology called SegWit2x.
The block size is 8 MB in Bitcoin Cash as compared to the bitcoin's block size of 1 MB. Also SegWit2x reduced the amount of data that needs to be verified.
This enables BCH to handle more transactions at faster speeds.
At the time of launch in 2017, BCH was called a better version of bitcoin... At least by its developers but that was translated to the actual price of BCH. Example 1 BCH was equal to around $555 while 1 BTC was trading near $4,000 at the time. As seen by the differences in prices, the majority of people were still behind BTC instead of BCH.
At the time of launch, the coin managed to gain some attraction and was trading around $543 when it was first launched. A few months later when BTC hit the $20,000, BCH reached an all time high of about $4,355.
Then came 2018 in which all cryptocurrencies crashed including the king of crypto, BTC. This affected the price of BCH/USD too as this bearish trend lasted for more than a year. As a result, the coin was pushed back to its launch price.
If the 2018 bear trend was not enough, talks of forking the Bitcoin Cash. The very thing BCH did to the BTC was now happening to it. Its new rival Bitcoin SV was forked away from the BCH but once again controversy did not end. Just like the case with bitcoin, folks did not agree with the new fork.
As a result of this new war, the price of the BCH coin was further dropped to around $80 per coin.
From a low of $80 per coin, Bitcoin Cash did manage to get up from dirt but never reclaimed its previous glory.
During 2019 to 2020, the price of BCH/USD remained stable and traded around the $230 to $270 range.
Since its inception, Bitcoin Cash has evolved significantly. Initially mirroring Bitcoin's price movements, BCH has charted its own course over the years. As I have personally followed the market since the 2017 fork, I have seen BCH go from explosive highs to deep lows and then slowly build its own identity in the crypto space.
By early 2025, Bitcoin had been trading around the $40,000 to $50,000 range after a volatile 2024, while BCH had stabilized between $300 and $450. Looking back, I remember watching BCH briefly surge above $700 in early 2024 and then settle again during the market cooldown. By the time 2025 arrived, BCH had become more predictable than in previous cycles and was holding its support levels much better.
The improved performance of BCH was driven by successful network upgrades and increased adoption among merchants. I remember using BCH myself for a cross border payment last year and the speed difference compared to BTC was very noticeable. Experiences like these were helping BCH gain more attention again throughout 2025.
While BCH experienced fewer forks in recent years, ongoing development ensured that the cryptocurrency remained robust and adaptable to market demands.
In the latest developments, Bitcoin Cash Node continued to lead as the primary implementation, maintaining its status as the original Bitcoin Cash. Enhanced features and scalability improvements introduced in 2025 strengthened the network and brought more developer activity into the ecosystem. Entering 2026, the project feels more stable and well supported than it has been in years.
Prominent advocate Roger Ver remains bullish on BCH, projecting its value to potentially reach $2,000 to $2,500 in strong market conditions. From my experience watching BCH during previous bull runs, when momentum builds it can move faster than most expect, so seeing it test the $2,500 area in 2026 would not surprise me.
Trading Beasts forecast an average price near $1,000 to $1,400 for BCH in 2025 and expect steady growth into 2026. Based on how BCH held its support levels through 2025, these numbers feel realistic.
Long Forecast projected $1,200 for 2025 and suggested that BCH could move toward $1,800 to $2,300 during 2026 if market sentiment becomes strongly bullish. Several traders I spoke to last year believed BCH could even test $2,500 in the right conditions.
Digital Coin Price estimated BCH around $900 to $1,200 in 2025 and projected a rise to approximately $1,600 to $2,100 in 2026. With new infrastructure and partnerships expected, I personally see BCH having a fair chance of trading between $1,800 and $2,500 if Bitcoin leads another strong rally.
With mixed views from experts and recent hard forks, things do not look so well for this cryptocurrency. In the near term, some bearish price action may be seen according to experts.
