There is no doubting the fact that the cryptocurrency industry seems to be experiencing a revolution right now. Cryptos like Bitcoins, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Dogecoin have become more popular than ever due to their market performances. Also, thousands of cryptocurrencies have come into existence over the years. One of such cryptos is the Big Coin.
This is an era of a cryptocurrency revolution. The first cryptocurrency was Bitcoin and was launched in 2009. After about a decade, more than 7,000 cryptocurrencies are in existence. There are innovators as well as investors in the segment, but it has also given space for fraudsters.
Big Coin is a digital currency that came into existence in2013. It has some similar features to Bitcoin, Ethereum and other popular cryptos. Compared to some of such digital currencies, it is fair enough to conclude that Big Coin has enjoyed some success. For instance, its value is currently about $310. Right now, the plan is that the maximum amount of Big Coins that will be issued annually is 1,000,000.
The business model or mission of My Big Coin is to enable transactions possible on gaming platforms via the aid of blockchain technology. One crypto has managed to compete favourably with some of the most popular names in the industry.
My Big Coin was developed in 2013 to use blockchain technology in business applications for cannabis and gaming markets. CEO John Roche created it. My Big Coin Pay was added to it about a year later to add a layer of utilisation and revenue, similar to credit cards and ATMs backed by the crypto coin.
On 21 January 2014, Roche tweeted that Big Coin was transacted for a price value of $23.17. His website and social media accounts were used for marketing the crypto coin and disclosing peer-to-peer transactions. Users were frequently urged to create accounts and hold the Big Coin in their wallets.
Two months later, on 6 March, Roche announced that Big Coin has partnered with a company to back all the coins with gold. The announcement was incredible and informed that the Coin was being transacted at $52.88. It means the value doubled within a couple of years. There was some more good news around the currency. It was said the owners could obtain a Mastercard or VISA backed by the Big Coin. The transactions made were now more than $102 with the card announcement, and in November, the value was $121.38. It was the time when the Big Coin claimed the deal had been finalised with MasterCard.
The Coin's attorney Adam Tracy had attempted a reverse merger into a shell company of NASDAQ in mid-2014. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority initiated an investigation into whether the Big Coin was selling shares that were exempted from registration or not at all registered.
On 16 January 2018, the CFTC named Randall Crater and My Big Coin in a civil complaint in the Federal Court of Massachusetts as defendants. The Big Coin salesman Mark Gillespie too, was named as the same. Crater's sister, wife and mother were named as relief defendants. However, the suit did not mention Roche.
The suit claimed the Big Coin and its Pay service were a Ponzi scheme and was crafted by Crater. The representations of the services on social media were false, and it was also not true that the Big Coin was backed by gold. Added to these, the announcement of the MasterCard deal was false.
However, Roche was named in a CFTC file on 20 April 2018 along with someone named Michael Kruger. By this time, the Big Coin and its Pay service were defunct entities. Kruger, Gillespie and Roche defaulted. As an individual defendant, only Crater was left.
About a month later, the defendants filed a motion saying the Court has no jurisdiction to undertake the case as the Coin was not a commodity as per the definition of the Commodity Exchange Act. The issue was crucial, and the federal Judge had to interpret the law.
On 26 February 2019, the Massachusetts office of the attorney found Crater guilty on four counts of wire fraud as well as three counts of Unlawful Monetary Transactions. However, Crater is currently preparing a defence.
There is every reason to believe that My Big Coin and its owner, Randall Crater, have come under serious scrutiny by the US government over the past couple of months. He has been accused of engaging in a case related to fraud. The claim against Carter and some other men involved in using the My Big Coin platform was to defraud people of their hard-earned money.
Another charge is that Randall Crater's website has made false claims to mislead public members. For instance, it was stated that its website made false claims about gold bullion backing its virtual currency and never used funds from investors as agreed. Instead, he diverted the funds towards his projects.
According to reports, Randall Crater used funds sourced from investors to buy jewellery, antiques and artwork. It has led to lots of question marks surrounding the existence of My Big Coin. According to US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, such accusations have come from about six customers who decided to use the cryptocurrency platform.
It is tough to see how this case is going to be settled amicably. Whatever decision is reached eventually, one thing has been registered on the mind of potential traders and investors of My Big Coin. It is a fact that committing funds to the Big Coin project is risky.
Of course, everyone knows that the cryptocurrency market is not regulated like the stock and Forex market. It is only a sign that your funds are at a huge risk of going missing at any time. There are many countries around the world where cryptocurrency investors are prone to the activities of fraudsters.
Whether Crater is innocent or not, there is no doubt that potential investors are beginning to doubt the potentials of Big Coin. The same can also be said about other cryptocurrencies on the internet. It is easier for one negative report to affect their value than a good report doing the opposite.
Crater's attorney has indeed managed to make some statements pointing to his innocence. However, convincing people to invest in My Big Coin will be more difficult than imagined. It is because the majority of investors and traders will be sceptical about their funds being safe. Just as the lawyer claimed, Big Coin has been created with all the necessary and required documentation. However, it will take more than just a statement to convince people about Crater's innocence.
Having seen the above, there is no doubt that you need to exercise utmost caution while investing in My Big Coin. The digital currency has lots of potentials, but all these adverse reports have not helped its cause over the past few months.
Cryptocurrency fraud is not new. The segment is about a decade old, and the headlines during the period talk about hacking the system or stealing the coins. Big Coin is one such cryptocurrency in the crowd, and the top bosses have been found guilty.
In this article, we talked about creating the Coin and how its value was manipulated. We learned that the legal framework is being worked on by the US authorities to prosecute the culprits. The picture is still not clear whether the fraudsters will be punished, and we will need to witness this in the near future.
